Designer and Environmental Artist
PROJECT
Dragon Gate was a submission for Jamfuser 2020, created in a team of six within 72 hours. I worked on the environmental assets, game mechanics and game loops.
DESCRIPTION
Play as a koi carp scaling the Yellow River, determined to leap the falls at the Dragon Gate which stands tall on the other end.

Hop over the mudslides, watch out for vines, and avoid the cranes.

Collect the Qui from each lotus flower to increase your leap power, and listen to the wise words of the friendly toad.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Designed game mechanics and loops in a collaborative team of six.

Created 2D environmental assets, animated and integrated them.

Led the art direction and environmental art research.

QA testing each revision of the game up to the final submission.
LEARNINGS

If I were to approach a 72 hour time limit now, I would plan agreed working hours and a full list of expected content with my team in advance, e.g. via a project management tool. This would ensure proper time allocation for features such as avoiding audio being integrated too late in the timeline.

Some team members had varying schedules which meant asynchronous collaboration and maintaining project stability was vital for hand overs.
